'FACE TO FACE WITH MONET' EXHIBITION AT THE VAN ABBEMUSEUM, NETHERLANDS
FACE TO FACE WITH MONET
VAN ABBEMUSEUM
December 18, 2025 - February 15, 2026
Eindhoven, Netherlands
The Van Abbemuseum presents Face to Face with Monet – a striking dialogue between Claude Monet’s Fishing Nets at Pourville and contemporary works by four internationally renowned artists: Yves Klein, Rineke Dijkstra, Zohra Opoku, and Tori Wrånes. The exhibition explores themes such as coastal life, fluidity, climate, connection, and the emotional and symbolic resonance of the colour blue. Featured works include Klein’s iconic Monochrome bleu, sans titre (IKB 63) (1959), Dijkstra’s Kolobrzeg, Poland, 27 July, 1992, Opoku’s multidisciplinary pieces, and Wrånes’ surreal sculptural forms.
Curated by Zippora Elders, this exhibition is part of Face to Face, a special series by the Van Abbemuseum that pairs masterpieces by historic artists – previously Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Gustav Klimt – with contemporary art and the museum’s own collection. Often featuring works shown in Eindhoven for the first time, the series creates unique, regional premieres that invite reflection on how key themes transcend centuries. Face to Face with Monet offers just such an opportunity: a rare chance to see Monet’s work in a fresh and resonant context. Exclusively on view in Eindhoven and the surrounding region.
Face to Face is a special exhibition series by the Van Abbemuseum in which key works by old masters – previously Rembrandt van Rijn, Frans Hals en Gustav Klimt – are brought into dialogue with contemporary art and the museum’s collection. Each edition often brings a work to Eindhoven for the very first time, where it is shown exclusively. This regional premiere offers visitors a unique chance to experience the work in a new context. The series explores how themes continue to resonate through the centuries. This dialogue between past and present offers a fresh perspective on art history and invites reflection and wonder.
