FEATURED AT DECORDOVA SCULPTURE PARK AND MUSEUM

deCordova SCULPTURE PARK AND MUSEUM

October 5, 2024 - October 4, 2026

Lincoln, USA

deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum is the largest park of its kind in New England. Providing a constantly changing landscape of large-scale, outdoor, modern and contemporary sculpture and site-specific installations of more than 60 works.

Patrons of deCordova can enjoy year round activities in the Sculpture Park and Museum, including snowshoe tours, yoga in the park, nature tours, curator and artist conversations, and many special talks, screenings, and events. deCordova is also home to Lincoln Nursery School, the first preschool embedded in a contemporary art museum in the United States.

deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum has extended the installation for an outdoor exhibition called ‘Nature Sanctuary’. This will be a group show of new commissions and loans by six women artists who are exploring critical ideas and aesthetic approaches to “nature as home”. This show will trace recent directions in artmaking that convey protection, care and refuge in their aesthetic form/design. These projects also reveal contradictions about the idea of a “nature sanctuary”, exposing how the exclusion, isolation, or displacement of living beings has been justified to protect the natural world. Through artistic materials and processes, these artworks help us consider the present and future ramifications of ecological change, as well as deeper histories of land use, occupancy, as well as the movement of people, plants, and animals across homelands.

Participating artists include Joiri Minaya, Kapwani Kiwanga, Evelyn Rydz and others, and we are collaborating with horticulturalists, ecologists and other environmental caretakers on the interpretation and public programming around this show.
